I. Public charging piles may currently suffer more fatal damage from impacts than from rusting due to rain

In the daily operation and maintenance of public charging stations, the rate of box damage often exceeds expectations:

  • When a novice driver slightly scratches the charging pile while reversing, the ordinary iron box is directly dented and deformed, and the door panel cannot close normally.
  • When unattended at night, the box body is damaged by human kicking, hammering or even lock-picking, exposing and damaging the internal modules.
  • The outdoor charging pile distribution box was hit by falling branches, hail or construction flying stones, and the thin-walled box body was instantly perforated.
      These scenarios point to the same core indicator: the ability to resist external mechanical shocks. Unlike home charging piles that are securely hung in private garages, public charging boxes must confront the problems they encounter in outdoor environments. However, at present, a large number of charging boxes on the market still use 1.0mm or even 0.8mm thin plates, which only meet the basic protection requirements and are far from reaching the mechanical strength needed in public environments.

II. IK Level Interpretation: What is IK10? How powerful is it?

The IK grade is the protection level of enclosures against external mechanical shock as defined by the IEC 62262 standard, ranging from IK00 (no protection) to IK10 (maximum protection), with a total of 11 levels. For public charging facilities, IK10 is recognized as the highest safety benchmark in the industry.

III. The secret behind the Ouyue Electric IK10

1. Reaching IK10 is far from being as simple as "thickening the sheet".

Ouyue Electric builds an impact-resistant system from two dimensions: material selection and welding process304 stainless steel plates starting from 1.5mm.

The impact resistance of stainless steel distribution boxes first comes from the material itself. The yield strength of 304 stainless steel is ≥205MPa, which is more than 1.5 times that of ordinary cold-rolled steel plates. We offer differentiated material selection based on different installation environments.

2.The welding quality of the box directly determines the overall impact resistance performance. 

Ouyue Electric uses a robot welding workstation to perform full welding on the four corners of the main box.

  • Unlike traditional manual spot welding (where only a few points are subjected to force), the robot welding gun moves at a constant speed along the seam, and the penetration depth is uniformly controlled at 70% to 80% of the plate thickness.
  • The weld seam undergoes pickling and passivation treatment, ensuring both strength and corrosion resistance simultaneously.
  • For the four corners of the door frame that are most frequently impacted, additional corner support plates are welded to form a stable triangular structure.
